FAQs

🚀 Getting Started

Q1: How do I become a pilot?
A: The first step is a Discovery Flight. It’s a hands-on, 1-hour experience where you’ll actually get to fly the airplane with me. After that, I’ll walk you through everything—from getting your medical certificate to completing your checkride. Most students start with a Private Pilot License, then move on to Instrument and Commercial if they’re pursuing a career.

Q2: What’s a Discovery Flight?
A: It’s a no-pressure intro flight where you’ll get to take the controls and see what flying is all about. It’s perfect for people who are curious about aviation or thinking about becoming a pilot. We’ll also chat through how flight training works, timelines, and costs.

🛫 Flight Training

Q3: How long does it take to get my Private Pilot License (PPL)?
A: Most people finish in 3–6 months if they train 2–3 times per week. The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours, but most students need around 60–70 to feel confident and ready.

Q4: How much does it cost to become a pilot?
A: For a Private Pilot License, most students spend around $12,000–$16,000, depending on how often they fly and how well they study. I’ll help you make the most of your time and budget with a structured training plan.

Q5: Do I need to be good at math or science to learn to fly?
A: Not at all. I’ll teach you everything you need to know step by step. As long as you’re motivated and open to learning, you’ll do great.

📍 Location & Logistics

Q6: Where do you fly out of?
A: I’m based out of Gillespie Field (KSEE) in El Cajon. It’s inland, which means we avoid most of the coastal fog and get more consistent flying days—great for your progress and your wallet.

Q7: Do you fly evenings or weekends?
A: Yes, I offer flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends. Flight training should fit your life, not the other way around.

✈️ Aircraft & Experience

Q8: What kind of airplane will I be flying?
A: You’ll primarily train in a Piper Archer or Cessna 172, depending on the flight school and availability. These are safe, forgiving aircraft—perfect for learning.

Q9: Is it safe?
A: Absolutely. Safety is my #1 priority. I’m a certified flight instructor with hundreds of hours logged, and we always fly in safe weather conditions with well-maintained aircraft.
